Francis was the son of John F. and Julia J. (Murphy) McGee.

Francis J. McGee of Marblehead, a real estate appraiser, died Monday in Salem Hospital after a brief illness. He was 88.

Born in Boston, Mr. McGee also lived in Dorchester, East Boston, Winthrop and Malden. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Coast Guard as a lieutenant.

He graduated from the Coast Guard Academy, First Reserve Class, in 1942 and was past president of his class and captain of the varsity football team at Tufts University, class of 1938.

Mr. McGee worked as a real estate appraiser for the past 40 years and also served as the chief real estate appraiser for the Malden Redevelopment Authority and the chief real estate review appraiser for the MBTA.

He was a past commander and life member of the Kennedy Memorial Post VFW in Boston, a life member of the Appraisal Institute's Greater Boston Chapter, a past president of the International Society of Real Estate Appraisers, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a life member of the National Association of Realtors.

Mr. McGee was also a member of the Corinthian Yacht Club on Marblehead Neck for more than 50 years.

Husband of the late Helen (Breen), he is survived by two daughters, Karen N. of North Stonington, Conn., and Sherry L. Barsanti of Alton, N.H.; three brothers, John F. Jr. of North Carolina, Richard A. of Florissant, Mo., and Paul C. of Allentown, Pa.; one sister, June T. Burchstead of Prairie Village, Kansas; and one grandson.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church, Marblehead.

Burial will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.

Arrangements are by Solimine, Landergan & Rhodes Funeral Home, Lynn.
