He moved to Warren, Maine in about 1811 and became a successful businessman. A merchant, ship-owner, and one of the first directors of the Thomaston Bank in 1825 and the George Insurance Co. in 1834. Was also a member of the Maine House of Representatives.

William married Eliza Lydia St. Barbe Clough 28 Oct 1810 in Thomaston ME.
