Mr. Lloyd A. Douglas, 88 of rural Dallas City, Illinois passed away Monday, April 5, 2010 at 2:55 A.M. at the Memorial Hospital in Carthage, Illinois.

He was born December 26, 1921 in Adrian, Illinois, the son of David and Irma Quivey Douglas. On July 5, 1942 he married Mary M. Rice in Kahoka, Missouri.

Mr. Douglas farmed for many years in Hancock County. At the age of 18 he joined the US Army and served during World War II in the South Pacific. He sold seed corn for Hoblit Seed Company and was district manager for 40 years. He was a member of the Durham United Methodist Church and served as a Lay speaker. He was also a member of the Burnside American Legion Post. He loved to fly, owned his own airplane and had an airstrip at his home. He played sports while in school , pitched on a softball team for 20 years and later coached a semi-pro basketball team. He was a wrestler, while in the service, becoming the Australian Middle-Weight National Wrestling Champion 3 times. He enjoyed following Nascar races. One of his biggest accomplishments was his time spent in tractor pulling. He was a pioneer in the business of tractor pulling in Illinois and was a 2 time state champion. He went on to become the announcer for the Agri-Show Tractor and Truck Pulls, which were held all over the United States.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Peggy (Ray) Derrick of Congress, Arizona, one son Larry (Lois) Douglas of rural Dallas City, 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Guy and Dale Douglas.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Revs. Tom Wright and Bob Wagner officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Durham Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. A memorial has been established for the Durham United Methodist Church or the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.
