Richard Lawrence Wenke the son of Walter and Mildred (Larson) Wenke was born May 13, 1940 in Bloomfield, NE. He departed this life on Thursday October 4, 2007 at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron, NE at the age of 67 years.

Richard was baptized June 30, 1940 by Pastor A. Ollenburg and confirmed April 3, 1955 by Pastor Elton R. Dubs both at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield, NE.

Richard grew up in Bloomfield, NE, attended a country school and graduated from Bloomfield High School. He served in the United States Army in Korea from 1963 to 1965 and then continued in the reserves until 1969. He then returned home to farm on the family farm.

On July 13, 1984 he married Carolyn Vetter and blended their families.

Richard enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and just spending time with nature. He was also interested in motorcycles. He was a long time member of the Road Motorcycle Club, where he spent time riding his Harley Davidson and going on trips. He especially enjoyed the road rallies.

In 1988 Richard and Carolyn moved to rural Hebron, NE. Richard was an employee of Reinke Manufacturing until 1998, when he retired because of his health. Richard enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marlene, and brother-in-law Duane Peters.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn of Deshler, NE, two sons Douglas Wenke and wife Bonnie of Alexandria, NE, Marc Bailey and wife Krista of Malcolm, NE, two daughters; Leigha Bolton and husband Tom of Manhattan, KS, Holly Peitzmeier of Lincoln, NE, three sisters; Crystal Peters of Bloomfield, NE, Norma Gieselman and husband Richard of Bloomfield, NE, and Mary Ann Kaiser and husband Mel of New Bright, MN, grandchildren; Randy and Kellie Peitzmeier, Laurel and Taggart Bailey, and Brett Bolton.

Memorial service will be held this Monday October 8, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church-Friedensau, rural Hebron, NE. Officiating Pastor Timothy A. Prince, organist Lois Pohlmann, a special selection “Greet The Rising Sun”, congregational hymns are “Jesus Lives! The Victory’s Won!”, “I Know My Redeemer Lives”. Honorary casket bearers are the members of the Road Motorcycle Club. Military Graveside Service by American Legion Halfman Post #352 of Deshler, NE. No visitation, cremation. Inurnment will be held in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery-Friedensau, rural Hebron. Memorials in care of the family. Deshler Memorial Funeral Home of Deshler, NE is in charge of arrangements.
