Fred E. Garner, 63 of Cortland, IL, formerly of Elgin, passed away Thursday at St. Alexius Medical Center, Hoffman Estates. He was born March 20, 1937 in Los Angeles, CA and was the son of William and Lorraine Garner. Fred was a veteran, having served in the US Navy. He was a Repair Technician for the Sears Co. for many years prior to his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret (nee Harshman) of Cortland, IL, whom he married on November 16, 1982; six children, Mary Pat (John) Holm of Bartlett, IL, Beverly and Christopher Shadel of Wheeling, IL, Ryan Doherty of Elgin, Nora Doherty of Chicago, IL and James Glen Garner at home; three grandchildren, Brandon, Adam and John Holm Jr.; three sisters, Edna (Dave) Mould of Elgin, Margaret (Don) Hutton of St. Charles, IL, Anna Marie Erdman of Elgin; and several nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Margaret Mulroney of Elgin.
Preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Paulette Roth.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:30 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin to St. Laurence Catholic Church for Mass at 10 AM with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be in Marengo Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 8 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
