Sherman Robert Smith married Annie Blackburn on March 11, 1894 in E.St. Clair Twp., Bedford, PA. He is the son of Joseph Blair Smith and Mary Ann Hoover. They had at least five daughters and one son, namely: Ruth Ann, Mary Margaret, Ethel, Edna, Clarence Kelly and Elsie.

Sherman Smith

Sherman Smith, a well known resident of this county died at his home near Fishertown, Sunday morning, of double pneumonia. He was born in St. Clair Township on Oct 31, 1867, a son of Joseph and Amanda Lentz Smith and was twice married. His first wife was Miss Ella Way. To this union one son was born, Harry Smith, deceased. His second wife was Miss Anna Blackburn, whom he married March 11, 1894, who survives with the following children: Mrs. Ruth Hinton, Cessna; Mrs. Mary Knisely, Swissvale; Mrs. Ethel Charles, of Harrisburg; and Clarence and Elsie, at home, 8 grandchildren and these brothers and sisters: Howard Smith, Ryot; Sylvester Smith, Point; Samuel Smith, New Paris; Clarence Smith, Johnstown; Mrs. Harry Carson, Ryot; and Mrs. Frank Oldham, state of Washington.
He was a member of the Reformed Church at Fishertown where funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock in charge Rev. Earl Dobbs, Cessna. Interment was made in the Fishertown Cemetery.





Sherman Smith, age 22, a farmer living in East St. Clair Township, son of Joseph B. and Mary Ann Smith, and Ettie Claycomb, age 20, a domestic living in East St. Clair Township, daughter of John H. and Maria Claycomb, were married March 22, 1888 by Rev. J. K. Andrews at Bedford, PA.

Gravesite Details

I believe that his obituary is wrong about his mother being Amanda Lentz Smith, as far as all the records that I have found shows Mary as his mother.
