Funeral services for Noel D. Townsend, Sr., 78, of DeRidder, were held Wednesday, April 7, 2010, in Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder, Rev. Bill Warrean officiated. Burial followed with full military honors in Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder.
Noel was born in Georgia and has lived in DeRidder for a number of years. He retired as a Sergeant First Class from the US Army after 21 years of service. Further, he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict with two tours. After he retired from the Army he was employed by the U. S. Civil Service at Fort Polk, where he retired a number of years later. In his spare time he loved working in his yard.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen Townsend of DeRidder; two sons; one of DeRidder, LA; Noel "Zeek" Townsend, Jr., of Watertown, NY; five daughters; twelve grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren.
