Tryphena Bisbee was the daughter of James Bisbee and Polly Packard, born April 4, 1819, in Chenago County, New York. She married Myron Nathan Crandall January 26, 1841, in the home of her uncle Noah Packard. The marriage was performed by Hyrum Smith, brother of the modern-day prophet Joseph Smith, Jr. Tryphena's family had joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1837 and were residing in Nauvoo, Illinois, at the time.

Two children were born to Myron and Tryphena in Illinois: Julia Ann (1841) and Hyrum Oscar (1844). In 1847, Myron and his family fled Nauvoo and moved to Kanesville, Iowa, where Myron Edgar was born.

In 1850, the Crandalls left Kanesville as part of the Aaron Johnson company, arriving in Salt Lake City September 2, 1850. Not long after, Brigham Young sent 8 wagons to settle a new area some 50 miles south of Salt Lake City. With Martin Pardon Crandall in the lead wagon, this smaller company arrived at Hobble Creek on September 18, 1850. The area was named Springville because of the mountain spring which gave them water and provided power for a grist mill. Franklin A. Crandall was the first child born in Springville, followed later by Lucian, Daniel, and Delos.

Tryphena died in Springville on October 12, 1863, and was buried beside her husband Myron who had died 3 years earlier.
