Garten, Hardy L. born 21 November 1869 in Poseyville, Gibson Co., Ind; oldest of 3 children of Harry and Malinda Garten; mother and a sister died when he was 11 years old; moved to Kansas in 1881 with father and brother Clarence; settled at Solomon; married 5 November 1896, Elizabeth Lacy at Salina; they had 12 children of whom Nettie and Edna died in infancy and Clarence died earlier this year; died 21 Nobember 1936 at home West of Abilene; survived by wife; 9 children Harry of Enterprise; Ward of Abilene; Mrs. Ethel Whitworth and Mrs. Pearl Zey of Abilene; Lawrence of Ellenwood; Mrs. Dee Long of Republic City, Neb; Raymond, Sylvan and Joseph at home; 21 grandchildren; 1 brother, Clarence of Talmage.
