Frederick Clarence Boots was born Nov. 24, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Guy and Mary (Worley) Boots. He grew up in Columbus, graduating from West High School. He went on to receive his B.A. from Malone College in Canton, Ohio and his Master's degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1972. Fred was married to Mary Cattell on Dec. 21, 1968 at the Westgate Friends Church in Columbus. He was renowned for the Friends Quaker Library in Columbus which he established. He was currently the head librarian at the Michigan Reformatory in Ionia, MI. Fred enjoyed caring for his Japanese garden; his art collection; his antiquarian Quaker book collection; and he loved to canoe and attend art shows. He put his heart and soul into his sons. Mr. Boots is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary; 2 sons, Stan R. (Mika) Boots of Portland, Oregon and Joseph M.A. Powers of Ionia, MI; 1 grandson, Cole Ryan Powers of Ionia; 1 sister, Linda (David) Cash of Grove City, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family to celebrate the life of Frederick C. Boots will be held Tuesday, August 17, from 2-4 pm and 7-8:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church, Ionia, MI. There will also be a visitaiton period on Saturday, Sept. 4th from, 10-11 am at the Westgate friends Church in Columbus, OH. Interment will be in Hoffhine Cemetery in Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Ionia Food Pantry. Envelopes are availale at the Church or COOK FUNERAL HOME Ionia, MI, who is in charge of arrangements.

Frederick Clarence Boots was cremated and his ashes were buried on his mother's (Mary Worley Boots)grave. He has no marker. (The information regarding burial is from his son who has visited his grave.)

Update: An obituary for Mary (Worley)Boots has been located and she is buried in the Hoffhine Cemetery in McArthur, Ohio. (This is about 76 miles from Columbus).
