Myrtle Jane was the first of three children born to Andrew Jackson and Callie McCulley.

She worked at Looper United Hosiery from nine years old until 21 years old.

Her mother, Callie, died when she was 17. Alex King, their step-father, became guardian of Myrtle and her two brothers.

She married Samuel Paul Buchanan October 10, 1915 in Rossville, Georgia. They had four children.

She is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN.
