Obituary

Died April 14, 1896 of pneumonia, Thos. H. Blakemore, familiarly known as Uncle Tom. Deceased was born in Henry County, Ky., near New Castle, January 8th, 1828, making him 68 years old when he died. His life has been checkered with many sad misfortunes. His father Wm. G. Blakemore died when Thomas was only 8 years old leaving his mother with six children, five sons and one daughter, three of whom are still living. After the death of his father, deceased's early training fell upon his mother, who early impressed upon his mind the best lessons of industry, honesty and self reliance, which have been characteristic of his life. Thomas received a meager education at La Grange, Ky. By the help of her children, his mother managed to buy a small farm in Clark county, Ky., where she died in 1866.

Tom Blakemore married Mariam Oldham who at the time was the Widow Mieze, who had one child and to them was born one child, a son. She died in 1858 in Clark county, Ky. He came to Missouri in 1863, married Ruth Young and returned to Kentucky, and returned to Missouri in less than a year and located in Boone county. He arrived in Boone with but $3 and by industry and honesty leaves his family comfortably provided for. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss, who have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement. He was a kind husband and an indulgent father. He was charitable and loved by all who knew him. He has been a member of the Christian church for years.
