Minnes, married George Washington Smith, son of Robert D. and Marilda Belle Ferguson Smith in Polk County, GA. on February 25, 1927.

Mrs. Minnes Lee Stephens Smith, age 79 of Rt. No. 3 Judkins Mill Road, Cedartown passed away Friday, April 3, 1987 in an out-of-town hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Smith was born July 12, 1907 in Polk County, TN. and was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. George W. Smith. Survivors include: five daughters, Mrs. Catherine Short, Mrs. Shirley Dowdy and Mrs. Betty Smith, all of Cedartown, Mrs. Edna Stephens of Buford, GA., and Mrs. Bonnie Laminack of Muscadine, Alabama; six sons, Mr. George Smith, Jr. of Sarasota, Fl., Mr. Robert Charles Smith of Cedartown, Mr. Edward B. Smith of Bradenton, FL., Mr. Billy Ray Smith of Silver Creek, GA., Mr. Melvin Smith of Bradenton, FL., and Mr. James Michael Smith of Cedartown; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Jarrett of Gadsden and Mrs. Mary Cole of Kosciusko, Miss., three brothers, Mr. Fred Stephens and Mr. T. E. Stephens, both of Gadsden, AL., Mr.. Edward Stephens of Los Angeles, California; 42 grandchildren and 44 great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday April 5, at 2:00 P.M. in the Union Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Earl Anderson and the Rev. Donald Leggett officiating. Interment followed in Oak Grove Cemetery. Nephews served as pallbearers. The Gammage Funeral Home of Cedartown was in charge of the arrangements. (Cedartown Standard, April 9, 1987)
