Obituary: Ephraim LaVar Sackett

Deseret News (Salt Lake City) Aug 8, 2004 Together Again

After a courageous battle with cancer, our loving father passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 5, 2004, surrounded by loving family members.

LaVar was born in Brigham City, Utah on June 10, 1921 to Ephraim Anzel and Anna Marie Pherson Sackett. He married Mary Rena Peterson on May 6, 1939. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a mechanic. LaVar was employed as a Crane Operator for the American Foundry Company. He was a long-time carpenter and member of Carpenters Local 184 where he served as Superintendent for several years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a good neighbor and friend. LaVar enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, but he mostly loved being with his family.

He is survived by his three children Wanda Nielsen, Mrs. Newell Johnson (Bonnie) Bill Sackett (Randee); 11 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchild-ren; three brothers Arthur "Art" Phillips (Louise) of Sacramento, CA, Allen Kay Sackett (Myrtle) of Payson, UT and Kent Sackett of Pendleton, OR.

He is preceded in death by his wife and his daughter, Brenda.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Cemetery, 6500 So. Redwood Rd., West Jordan, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
