Nancy Bruffy Austin, 65, of Lynchburg, died at her home Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005. She was the wife of the late Lt. Col. Fred E. Austin for 40 loving years.Nancy was born in Rustburg, on Feb. 13, 1940, a daughter of the late William H. Bruffy and Merle Webber Bruffy. Nancy was a devoted homemaker and was active in her community, volunteering with the Lynchburg General Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of the Lynchburg Area Women's Bowling Association in which she was a Hall of Fame member. She was also a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Dennis Austin and his wife, Sherry of Naola; a daughter, Sonya Lipscomb and her husband, Jimmy of Rustburg; a son, SFC Kevin Austin and his wife, Michaela of Germany; seven grandchildren; Tori Lipscomb Dellis and her husband, Daniel, Caitlin Lipscomb, Bryson Lipscomb, Erika Austin, Cody Austin, Sebastian Austin, and Ashley Austin; one brother, Tom Bruffy of Ohio; three sisters, Becky Carson of Lynchburg, Carole Smith of Midlothian, and Mary Kitts of Rustburg; her mother-in-law, Jennie Flint of Lynchburg; and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Turner and Glennie Mullins both of Lynchburg; and many close and special friends. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Tharp Funeral Home, and all other times at her daughter, Sonya's residence. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at Thomas Road Baptist Church with the Rev. David Heerspink and Chaplain Wayne Lanham officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
