Her father, William Craig was born June 1844 Illinois and her mother, Genette (Bora) Craig was born August 1844 Scotland. They were married about 1855. They came to Washington Territory in December 1883 and established a ranch near Sprague, WA.

Ella was living with her parents 1900 in Sprague, Lincoln County, WA with her two sisters. Isabella Craig born May 1856 California was 43 and Margaret Craig born September 1882 Nevada.

At the age of 16 Ella obtained a teaching certificate through testing and she taught in Lincoln County. She later got her teaching degree at Cheney Normal School at Cheney, Spokane County, WA. She taught until she married.

She married Thomas J. Crowley 9 November 1904 Spokane, Spokane County, WA.

They farmed at Mohler in Lincoln County, WA. In 1912 they moved to Attalia, Walla Walla County, WA; Oaksdale, Whitman County, WA and in 1919 were in Deer Park, Spokane County, WA. He had a small but diversified farm near Deer Park. Temporary moves were made while living here so their children could attend state college in Cheney, WA. All of their children graduated from WSU.
