Mary Ellen Webber Evans, died Sunday, July 30, 2000 at her home. She was the wife of the late Anthony Foster Evans, Sr. Mrs. Evans was born March 2, 1924 in Pamplin, a daughter of the late Herman J. Webber and the late Thelma Bainbridge Webber. She was a member of Forest Baptist Church, Rebecca Lodge #41, The Ageless Wonders and a live member of the Marine Corp. League. She is survived by her children, Cheryl J. Evans of Big Island, Anthony "Tony" Foster Evans, Jr., Linda E. Evans and James David Evans, and his friend, Faye Wertz all of Lynchburg, adopted sons, Ronnie Stinnett and Ray McClung both of Lynchburg; three brothers Jesse Webber of Chesapeake, Morris Webber and his wife, Shirley of Lynchburg and Chesley Webber and his Wife Beverly of Sommerset, Ky.; three grandsons, Skylar Evans and Jason and Andrew Wilhelm, former daughter-in-law Maureen Evans, many special friends including Jack and Clara Lowe and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Rain Evans, a sister, Merle Bruffy and a brother Carlton Webber. The family would like to thank the friends and relatives who gave so generously to themselves, the staff of hospice of the Hills and Forest Family Physicians and Dr. Headly and the Oncology Associates. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2000 in the Woodall-Thorp Chapel with the Rev. Jack Barrett and the Rev. William Vest officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Hills, 3300 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg, Va. 24503 or Forest Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 478, Forest, Va. 24772. Woodall-Thorp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, 237-9424.
