Of Scotia Killed in Viet

The holder of two Purple Hearts, Marine
Lance Cpl David Vollmer, 21, stationed
in Vietnam since July, was killed in
combat action Sunday,

Cpl. Vollmer, 47 McArthur Drive, Scotia,
who was previously awarded the Purple Hearts
for a facial wound and a chest injury,
received the fatal gunshot wounds to the
head and body from hostile rifle fire during
an ambush in Quang Nam Province.
Proud to be a Marine, the young Scotian was
just as proud to be part of a Marine family.
His older brother, Pfc. George E. Vollmer Jr
is stationed at Cherry. Point, N.C., while a
younger brother, Michael Lee Vollmer, has
been sworn in and will leave for recruit
training at Parris Island, N.C., Dec. 30.
Enlisting in service in 1967, Cpl. Vollmer
completed his basic training at Parris Island
and his advanced training at Camp LeJuene.
He left for Vietnam from Camp Pendleton,
Calif., with the Delta Co., First Battalion,
26th Marines, July 26.

He will buried with full military honors, from
the Lasak Funeral Home, Scotia.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
A native of Amsterdam, he attended
Scotia-Glenville High School before enlisting
in the Marines in which he was awarded silver
and gold wings for parachute jumping
Besides his brothers, he Is survived by his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. George E. Vollmer,
Scotia; another brother, Timothy, and a
sister, Roberta Ann, both of Scotia;
his maternal grandparents.
