Andrew Hoover's (Andreas Huber)baptism was recorded in a Lutheran Church book at Ellerstadt, Germany: "Anno 1723. Den 29 Jan. 1st, Jonas Huber and Seiner frau Anna Maria ein sohn gebohren und den 7ten Feb. Andreas getauft." When he was 15 years old, he immigrated to America. In 1772, Andrew travelled with his family by oxcart down the Great Wagon Road to settle near the Uwharrie River in Randolph (then Rowan/Orange) county, NC. He married Margaret Catherine Pfautz. Jacob and Jonas were the only two of their thirteen children to remain in North Carolina. The other families moved to Ohio, Indiana, and Iowa, probably because of opposition to slavery and because of disasterous floods in North Carolina in 1795 and 98. President Herbert Hoover is descended from their son John Hoover, who moved to Iowa.
Andrew's exact burial place is not known, but a monument was erected on the burial ground, not far from this church's cemetery proper.
