Joyce A. Beck, age 70, of Portland, IN, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 in the Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne. She was born in Portland, August 25, 1939, the daughter of George and Mildred (Shoemaker) Resur.

She was married June 17, 1961 to Jerry Beck, and he died January 2, 2003.

Joyce was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught in the Jay School Corp. She also taught mallet instruments at Taylor University. She was an active and lifelong member of the Portland Friends Church, having been the organist for over fifty years.

She was a 1957 Portland High School graduate, member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Jay County Retired Teachers Association, Tri Kappa sorority, Kappa Delta Pi sorority, Phi Gamma Mu sorority, Delta Phi Epsilon sorority, and Jay County Hospital Auxiliary.

Surviving are two daughters, Sherri McKibben and Sherilyn Garrison; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, with Pastors Doug Shoemaker and Mike Harris presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery .

Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. and prior to the services Wednesday.
