Austin dies in Gotham Hospital

Milton T. Austin, 41 years of age, and a former resident of Piedmont, passed away in the New York city hospital on Thursday morning [10 December 1936] following several months of declining health, though he had been seriously ill for only two weeks. Mr. Austin had served as an employee of New York city post office for 17 years, and made his home in Woodbridge N.J. He was a World War veteran, having served with the regular army from 1915 to 1920. He was a member of the Methodist Church. His wife, Mrs. Marie Stuber Austin, of Woodbridge,survives him, with one son, Milton T. Austin, Jr.. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Joseph Austin of Piedmont, Mrs. Austin, prior to her marriage having been Miss Mary Rice, and one sister, Mrs. J.H. Bayne, of Greenville. Three nephews; W. T. Hollingsworth, of Ashville,N. C. ; L. J. Hollingsworth of Philadelphia, Pa. and H.M.Hollingsworth, of Greenville, and three nieces, Mrs. Maurice R. Garrison, Miss Lucille Bayne and Miss Irene Bayne, all of this city also survive.

Funeral services and interment for Mr. Austin will take place in Woodbridge, NJ.

RITES FOR AUSTIN SLATED ON SUNDAY

FULL MILITARY HONORS WILLBE GIVEN MAILMAN, A WAR VETERAN

Full military honors will be accorded Milton T. Austin, prominent local mailman, at his funeral Sunday afternoon from his later home 11 Vanderbilt Place. The services will be conducted by Woodbridge Post, American Legion, under Commander Thomas Kath.

Mr. Austin, who was well-known throughout Woodbridge, died in the French Hospital, New York City, early yesterday. He had been in poor health for several months. He had delivered mail in this section for eight years before being transferred last August to New York. He saw service as a sergeant in the Motor Transport Quartermaster Corps and was a member of the Legion.

Besides his widow, Marie, he is survived by a son, Milton Jr., a sister, Mrs. Elsie Bayne of Greenville, South Carolina, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Austin of Greenville, South Carolina.

The Rev. Earl H. Devanny will officiate at the funeral and burial will be in Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy.

Members of the American Legion and other ex-servicemen will meet on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock in the Legion meeting rooms at the Memorial Municipal Building to take part in burial services for the late Milton Austin. All former drum and bugle corps members were especially asked to attend today by Commander Thomas F. Kath.
