William, who had the title of Esquire as his father and grandfather, married Mariah E. Kirtland on April 25, 1820 at Saybrook, Middlesex County, Connecticut. His parents were William Hart Lynde, Sr., Esquire & Sarah Kirtland, dau. of Capt. Martin Kirtland and Sarah Meigs. William died after being hit by a cannon ball during a fourth of July celebration. His tombstone gives his death date as July 4th, the vital records say July 6th. After being hit by the cannon ball, he may have lingered for a couple of days with his injuries.
