Lucy Mosher Vincent was born in Chilmark, MA on the island of Martha's Vineyard in 1882 to Elihu E. Mosher and Marinda J. Mayhew. She married Myron Vincent and was widowed in 1930. She had no children. She was Chilmark librarian for a total of 38 years, still holding the record for length of service in that capacity. She was an expert bird watcher and provided ample food for them at her home on the South Road. Lucy loved her gardens and worked tirelessly to keep them awash in vibrant colors. After her death in 1970 her extensive beachfront property was sold allowing the Town of Chilmark to acquire a long term lease for its use. It now bears her name "Lucy Vincent Beach".
