GREENSBORO, NC — Elizabeth Crossen Ashley, 85, died on Friday, March 26, 2010, surrounded by her family and caregivers in the peace and comfort of home.
She passed away just 30 minutes before her husband of 65 years, Captain Linsey Simpson Ashley.
Mrs. Ashley was born and raised in Saint Louis, MO, and was the daughter of Dr. Robert James Crossen and Mrs. Genevieve Wilson Crossen Towle.
She was a 1946 graduate of Wellesley College, and her life as a homemaker and wife of a Naval captain led her to Boston, MA; San Diego, CA; Pearl Harbor, HI; Charleston, SC; Norfolk, VA; McLean, VA; and finally to Greensboro.
Her family includes daughter Lucy Ashley Mischen (Stephen) of Greensboro, granddaughter Virginia Mischen-Hays (Dr Ryan Hays) of Princeton, NJ, grandson Dr. Byron Mischen (Dr. Susan Marcelli) of Belleair, FL; and great-granddaughters Calla, Reese, and Spencer Mischen of Belleair, FL; son Robert Linsey Ashley, who predeceased her; son Jeffrey Crossen Ashley of Virginia and grandchildren Amy and Steven Ashley of Virginia; brother Dr. Philip Sturgeon Crossen (Leila) of Lexington, KY, who predeceased her; sister Carolyn Crossen McMillan (John) of Salem, OR; and members of her extended family.
Private memorial services are planned for a later date in Frankfort, MI, Arlington, VA, and Charleston, SC.
