Daughter of the late John Henry and Elizabeth Russell Richards, she was the widow of James Owen "Pete" Barber, Sr. (married on June 18, 1946), who died on August 30, 1994. Additionally, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John Richards and Joseph Richards. She was survived by three sons, James O. Barber, Jr., Douglas H. Barber and Samuel J. Barber; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and an extended family of relatives. Her funeral was held on March 20, 2010, at Old Union Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Peter deVries officiating.
