Mary Madge Sackett Alvey, 90, passed away at her South Ogden home early Sunday morning February 17, 2008.
Madge was born July 28, 1917 in Brigham City, the daughter of Estress Manley and Mary Arminta Harper Sackett. She was the second of four daughters and one son. She spent her childhood in Duckville, the bird refuge where her father ran the gun club, and Brigham City, Utah. She graduated from Box Elder High School and attended Weber Academy.
While working at JW Brewer Tire, she met and married Albert Russell Alvey. She also worked at Ogden First Federal Savings for 37 years, where she eventually became a Vice-President. Bert passed away January 9, 1987.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served as a Visiting Teacher and building coordinator. One of her happiest moments was when she was sealed to her children and husband on August 10, 1988 in the Ogden Temple.
Madge enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, Mary (Todd) Smith, Hooper; Jim (Sheri Childs) Alvey, Ogden; Bill (Shelley Herrick) Alvey, South Ogden; two step children, Raymond and Barbara Jean Alvey; 17 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and her sister, Marjie Tebbs, Banning, CA. Madge is also survived by a special niece, Susan Wright, with whom she traveled and had weekly hair appointments together.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bert, grandson, Cameron Keil., sisters, Rula and Merle and an infant brother, Harper.
The family would like to thank Applegate Hospice and McKay-Dee Hospital staff and physicians for their care.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Shadow Valley Ward Chapel, 5191 Old Post Road, with Bishop Michael King officiating.
Friends may call at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday at the Ward Chapel 8:45 to 9:45 a.m.
Interment, Brigham City Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
