William Reed was the son of John and Eunice(?)Reed who immigrated from Ireland and settled in Butler Co, Ohio. William Reed shipped the first
load of tan bark to La Fayette, and was a pioneer of Tippecanoe County. He was called "Uncle Billy" by everyone. Died a member of the U.B. church. He married Prudence Hunewell Doty December 26, 1825. They had 9 children: Leander, George W. b. 1830, William R. (Riley)b. 1833 (m. a Williams), Albert b. 1836 (m. Jane Johnson), Mary Jane b. 1839 m. Wm. Dawson, Charles b. 1842 (killed in civil war), Emily Elizabeth b. 1844, Eunice Ann (Miller?) b. 1849, Savannah Frances b. 1851(m. C.W. Stair and later George Fosnot)
