RC grew up farming and before WWII he worked in a cotton mill. He served in the U.S. Army as a heavy machine gunner in the 209th CA (AA). He served in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He didn't talk about the war much but said he was a guard at Dachau when the Allies freed them.
He worked at Willingham Sash and Door company for a while then Taylor Iron Works as a welder. Later he worked for Bibb Steel and welded beams used in bridges on the interstate road system. He went into business for himself and built pulpwood truck beds and loaders and welded anything that was broken.
RC loved to fish and our vacation was usually somewhere to camp and fish or go to Florida and go deep sea or flat fishing.
