Watertown, NY Jan. 24, 1908-- Simeon P. Chapman, Theresa's grand old man, was born in that village April 22, 1826. Mr. Chapman has been a nurse for half a century and although he will be 82 years old next April, he declares he can now serve a hard case as well as any younger man, if he can get six hours' rest out of the 24. Mr. Chapman states that he attended the district school about six months in all. He was obliged to work and support his father's family and therefore had no time for school. He worked at milling for about 25 years. He first began nursing when about 16 and later took it up as his profession. Mr. Chapman's family came from Massachusetts and settled in Jefferson County in the days when blazed trees guided the traveler.

Son of Pioneers of Town of Theresa Succumbs

Simeon P. Chapman, 92 years of age, whose parents were among the pioneer settlers of the town of Theresa died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.W. Conklin in the town of LeRay, this morning. Chapman, an older brother of Simeon. His father established a sawmill at Theresa and ran it for several years.
When Simeon became a young man he became a miller and followed the business until he retired several years ago. He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Dorothy Davis and after her death he married Miss Eliza Townsend of Theresa, who died eight years ago. Mr. Chapman continued to make his home in Theresa for about two years after her death, but about six years ago he came to Evans Mills to make his home with his daughter.
