Earl died June 16, 1964, at 4:15 a.m. in the Fresno County Jail, Fresno, CA, from lobar pneumonia. The autopsy reported fatty matamorphosis of the liver, due to alcohol. It showed that he had been cremated. He was buried in Potters Field Cemetery, Section South, Row 37, Lot 51, a group grave, as an indigent. The Fresno County Parks & Recreation Department maintains the Potter's Field Cemetery.

A microfiche search of past copies of the Fresno Bee Newspapers for the period June 16-25, 1964, did not turn up an obituary notice for Earl Talbot Lovell. The Fresno City Directories for the years 1962-1964 did not have a listing for Earl Talbot Lovell.

A certified copy of Earl Talbot Lovell's Death Certificate has been obtained from the Fresno County Recorder's Office. According to that Death Certificate, Earl's last known address was 1436 S. Orange St., Fresno, California. That address was for the Hobbs Motel. That motel no longer exists (in 1997).

Earl was cremated on 24 JUN 1964. He was buried on 9 DEC 1968. According to a Fresno County Parks & Recreation Department spokesman, the reason for the long interval between death and burial is that individual urns of ashes were kept for a period of time until a substantial amount was accumulated to bury in a group grave.

Chapel of The Light Funeral Home did the cremation. Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home handled the funeral. Whitehurst Funeral Home is their present name.
