Dorothy Johnson McAulay, 97, resident of 1110 Marshall Road, widow of Hugh Lee McAulay, died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Wesley Commons Health Care Center.

Born in Dalton, GA, August 11, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Ambrose Cavanaugh and Emma Lula Bailey Johnson. Mrs. McAulay was a graduate of Georgia State Woman's College, now Georgia College in Milledgeville, where she received a Master's degree in dietetics. Formerly of Morganton, NC, she and her late husband made their home in Greenwood in 1997.

She was active in many civic organizations, including the North Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs.
Serving as president of the local club in Morganton, she also served as president of District III from 1976-1978.

A former member of First Presbyterian Church in Morganton, Mrs. McAulay was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greenwood.

Surviving are a daughter, Eloise "Ellie" Clayton and husband, David of Greenwood; son, David Lee McAulay and wife, Louise of Florence; four grandchildren, Suzanne Mootoo and husband, Terrance of Chicago, IL and Dianne McAulay, also of Chicago, IL, Christine C. Brown and husband, Billy of Charlotte, NC and Alex Clayton and wife, Andrea of Greenwood; four great-grandchildren, Brianna and Ethan Clayton of Greenwood and McAulay and Jacob Brown of Charlotte, NC; and one sister, Tallulah Foster of James Island, SC.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 4:00 PM from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. J. Christopher Leonard and Reverend Don Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Ellie Clayton, 306 Glenwood Street, Greenwood and will receive friends at the funeral home from 3-4 PM Saturday.
