By 1880, they had settled and began farming near Toccopola, Pontotoc County, MS, where they had nine children: Caroline (1877-1960), Sofillia (1879-1880), James Alford (1881-1948), William Lee (1884-1962), Elbert Barney (1886-1910), Joe Richard (1888-1967), John L. (1891-1913), Carrie L. (1893-1948), and Curtis "Curt" (1897-1972).
