Maurice Eugene was the first child of John Charles and Carrie Louise (Arrington) Eiland. I always felt had he lived they would have named him John Charles, Jr. although this was just an opinion me and my mother shared and nothing more. I was told he was buried at Willow Oak Cemetery but there is no marker. The death certificate simply states that the undertaker was "J. C. Eiland" and burial was in Mulberry. Back in the 1930s, it was legal for families to bury their own. I know Maurice Eugene was born at home in Lake Wales. Back then, the nearest hospital to their home was in Winter Haven. This memorial was created to ensure little Maurice is never forgotten. The first 29 years of my life I never knew my dad had a brother he never had the chance to meet.
