Ben Garcia, Pioneer of Moab, Dies
Ben Garcia, 67, pioneer sheepman of the Moab area, died at a local hospital last Saturday night after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the LDS church.
Services were conducted by Father Thomas Kaiser, pastor of the local Catholic parish. Holy Rosary was said at the Turner Funeral Home with requim high mass on Tuesday morning. Burial was in Grand View cemetery.
The services were the first Catholic services ever held in the LDS church and the first in the Moab Valley.

Garcia was born Abiquiu, NM, Nov 28, 1887 the son of Pablo Garcia & Juana Rosalia Chavez Garcia.
He was the eldest of three children, and is survived by his only sister Mrs. Ella Garcia with whom he made his home, a brother Jubencio Garcia and his half-brother Henry Garcia, both of Abiquiu.
He attended Schools in Oklahoma from where he came to Moab in 1919 and shortly thereafter went to work for Don Taylor and remained in his employment for 49 years.
