Race car driver - Billy, was an 8 time Indianapolis 500 starter, He was racing on the mile track in Springfield, Illinois, when a front wheel collapsed going into a turn. The car went 20 feet into the air and pinned him beneath it when it landed. He had massive injuries.
Billy had 4 AAA wins, 2 at Syracuse and 2 at this track at Springfield.
One of the most famous drivers of the 30's era was laid to rest on August 23,1938 and lies in an unmarked grave in the cemetery. A marker was placed by the Racers at Rest Project in December, 2011.
