Mrs. Gesine Muchow Called By Death

Monday morning at the hour of seven a devoted child of God left this vale of tears, when Gesine Catherine Muchow departed this life at the ripe age of 82 years, seven months and eight days.

Gesine Catherine Muchow, nee Lammers was born March 5, 1860 in Grand Duchy Oldenburg Germany. In Oldenburg she received the washing of regeneration of Holy Baptism. She left Germany and came to the United States in 1867 to live at Minonk, Woodford county, Illinois. There she was instructed in the Christian faith and confirmed by the Rev. Bernard Burfeind. In 1877 she was united in marriage to August Muchow, who preceded her in death April 12, 1930. It was Pastor Burfeind that conducted the ceremony wedding. In 1878, the young couple moved to Hastings, Nebraska after two years they came to Blue Hill and lived in this vicinity until their death. The Lord blessed their family with sixteen children, who, together with 35 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren, mourn her death. The children are Mrs. Anna Murra, Kelso, Wash.; Mrs. Augusta Wittmack, York, Nebr.; Mr. Otto Muchow, Otis, Colo.; Mr. Henry Muchow, Stratton, Colo.; Miss Bertha Muchow, San Jose, California; Mr. Fred Muchow, Grand Island, Nebr.; Mr. Wm. Muchow, Sacremento, California; Mr. Carl Muchow, Otis, Colo.; Mr. Edward Muchow, Otis, Colo.; Mrs. Ottilie Tobiassen, Geneva, Nebr.; Mr. Walter Muchow, Topeka, Kans.; Mrs. Adeline Boyes, Fairmont, Nebr.; Miss Dorothy Muchow, San Francisco, California; Mr. Paul Muchow, Westmoreland, Kans.; Mrs. Eda Jones, Centerville, Miss.; and Mrs. Gesine Luethke, a grandchild who was raised by the departed, Fairmont, Nebr.

Mrs. Muchow was privileged to celebrate with her husband their golden wedding, April 5, 1927. The departed was a faithful member of the Lutheran church all the days of her life. Five of her sons served in the armed forces of our country in World War I, and the same number of grandchildren are serving our country in the present war in the same capacity. Several years ago she down with her last illness. Bravefully and cheerfully she bore the cross until the Lord relieved her from all suffering by a blessed end.

Her funeral was held Thursday afternoon. In the house of mourning a quartet sanf "For Me to Live is Jesus." In the service at Trinity Lutheran church the pastor based hius words of comfort on Hebr. 4, 9: "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God." The chorus of Trinity Lutheran school rendered "Take Thou My Hands and Lead Me." Her remains were placed at rest in Trinity Lutheran cemetery. "A rest remaineth for the weary; Arise sad heart, and grieve no more; Tho' long the way and dark and dreary. It endeth on the golden shore. Before His throne the Lamb will lead thee. On heavenly pastures He will feed thee. Cast off thy burden, come with haste; Soon will the toil and strife be ended. The weary way which thou hast wended. Sweet is the rest which thou shalt taste.
