After the death of David Lewis, Margaret married (2) Tarlton Lewis, brother to David. This was not a happy marriage, however, and they were soon divorced. Margaret was a young woman with two children and no visible means of support. The best and most compassionate way to care for her, it seemed to David and Rebecca, was to make her part of the family, consequently, 11 Oct 1865, Margaret became the plural wife of David Chidester. Six children were born by this plural marriage of David and Margaret.
