Miss Angela Dawn Childers, 21, of Marion, formerly of Vienna, died at 6:50pm, Friday, July 8, from injuries received in a traffic accident in Sydney, Australia.
She was on a six-week study abroad program when she and a University of Connecticut graduate student from Austin, Texas, were struck by a truck while crossing a street.
She was born on Feb. 27, 1973 in Paducah, KY. to Ralph Childers of Vienna and Mary Ellen (HARPER) Childers of Marion, who survive. Also surviving are a brother, Todd Childers of Vienna; grandmothers, Helen Harper of Vienna and Nellie (MANUS) Childers of Goreville; and a grandfather, Donald Childers of Goreville. Her grandfather, Todd Harper, preceded her in death in 1991.
Miss Childers graduated from Vienna High School in 1991, Shawnee College in 1993 and was currently attending SIU, Carbondale. She also had worked at the Marion Target store for about a year.
She was a member of Simpson Baptist Church and C. O. B. A. Council at SIU-C.
Services will be held at 2pm, Sunday in the Aly Funeral Home in Vienna, where friends may call from 6 to 9pm, Saturday. The Revs. Richard Bundren and Allen "Pete" Vinson will officiate. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery in Vienna.
