John W. Sickafus Friday Feb. 1, 1901

John W. Sickafus died Thursday Jan. 24, 1901. He had been a sufferer for many years and for the past two years had been partially paralyzed. For several weeks his throat was paralyzed, so he could eat nothing.

The funeral was held Saturday at 11: o'clock at the Oak Grove church and was conducted by Rev. Blythe. He was buried in Oak Grove cemetery.

John W. Sickafus was born Aug. 6, 1837, in Alleghany county, Ohio, and died Jan. 24, 1901, being 63 years, 5 months and 18 days old. He came to Macon county in 1859. He then moved to Moultrie county in 1861 and lived here until 1898 when he moved to Shelby County where he lived until his death.

He enlisted as a private in Co. B. 116 Ill. Vol. on Aug. 15, 1862, and served his country three years. He was in 17 hard battles and was discharged June 7, 1865, at expiration of term of service.

He was united in marriage to Sylvia Hall April 29, 1875. To this union were born four children, Elmer, Roy, Walter and Lillie. Lillie departed from this life Sep. 17, 1895.
