WINDHAM — Lisa J. (Tay) Lawrence, 47, of Windham, N.H., died Monday at her home after a brief illness.

She was born in Methuen, MA, grew up and was educated in Andover, MA, where she attended Pike School and graduated from Phillips Academy. She later received her master's degree from Leslie College in Cambridge, MA.

Lisa worked tirelessly to receive her Ph.D. from UMass in Lowell. She was a resident of Windham for the past 18 years, formerly of Salem, NH, and Andover and Cambridge.

Lisa worked as an ESL teacher for the Merrimack, NH, school district. She also worked as an adjunct professor for several area colleges. Teaching was her passion and she loved her students. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and enjoyed spending time with her dogs, Kai and Kona. Lisa's greatest love was running, where she ran in a marathon and several half marathons. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Rita (Ashton) Tay.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Brett Lawrence of Windham; father, Bernard J. Tay of Seabrook Beach; brother, Mark H. Tay of Stratham; sisters, Deborah and her husband, Mark Davidson of North Hampton, Wendy and her husband, Kevin Callery of Andover, Mass.; mother and father-in-law, John E. and Jewel Lawrence of Medford, Mass.; and sister-in-law, Nicole J. Smith of Stoneham, Mass. She was a devoted aunt to her many nieces and nephews.

Private memorial services will be held at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the MSPCA, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
