James Burns Montgomery died at the home of his son, Alex Montgomery, Thursday morning, April 21, 1927. He was born July 20, 1839, in Haddingtonshire, Scotland. In 1852 he moved to Paris, Canada. Eight years later he was united in marriage to Margaret McKay. To this union five children were born, but only one survives him, Alex Montgomery of Buckeye township, with whom he has made his home for a great many years. He has been a resident of Gladwin county for the past 27 years. He was well known throughout the country and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He made many friends, was very sympathetic and always ready to comfort those in trouble. Mr. Montgomery was 87 years, 9 months, and one day of age at the time of his death. He leaves to mourn one son, eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

The funeral services were held at the home of the son, Alex Montgomery, Sunday afternoon, Rev. A. J. Preston of Beaverton, officiating. Interment in Gladwin cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 4-28/1927 Column – 3 Page – 4.
