When it was thought the Tocks Island Dam would be built, a number of public notices went into newspapers to locate next of kin for people interred on land the dam would put underwater.

Below is such a notice, which contained many names, including the person on this memorial. Here the cemetery is called "Bushkill Cemetery" which is an alias for the Reformed Dutch Church Burial Ground.

From the Milford Dispatch Thursday December 21, 1972:

-- NOTICE --

This Notice seeks information about the following names or initials taken from headstones or footstones in the Bushkill Cemetery located at Bushkill. Pennsylvania:

[Following was a long list of names, which included the individual memorialized here.]

Fellow contributor William DeCoursey sends the following suggestion:

"I have reason to believe that this is Emanuel Gonsales, bpt. 25 Sep 1720 at Kingston, Ulsser Co., NY, son of Emanuel Gonsales and Rymerig "Rachel" QUICK. He died Mar 1789 at Delaware Twp., Northampton Co. (Now Pike Co., PA.) He married 23 Mar 1750 to Jennetjen "Yamaky" Van Etten, dau. of Jacobus Van ETTEN and Antjen WESTBROOK."Son of Manuel Gonsalus Jr. and Rymerig Quick.

Married Jannetje Van Etten.

Had CHildren: Elizabeth Gonsalus Quick, Maria Gonsalus Overfield, Sara Gonsalus Brink, Samuel Gonsalus, Manuel Gonsalus, Catherine Gonsalus Turner, Eleanor Gonsalus Wolfe.

He later Married Rachel Louw

Baptized on 25 September 1720. Religion 1 - - Reformed Dutch Church, Kingston, Ulster County, New York. First Residence - - Kingston, Ulster County, New York. Second Residence - - Delaware Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.

The Manuel Gonsalus listed as sibling is this person. THis memorial was made to link the parents to him and so on back to Spain
