Son of Thomas J. Chandler and Isabella Derickson Chandler who resided in Hockessin, Delaware.

John "Willard" served as a Private, Battery B, 169th Field Artillery Battalion, attached to an Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in New Castle County, Delaware prior to the war.

He was "Killed In Action" on New Guinea during the War. He served in the Army for two year and five months and was awarded a Purple Heart.

At the families request, his state of birth was added to his headstone (Pennsylvania) instead of his state of residence (Delaware).
