Clarence, who resided at 6 Market Street, Newport, Delaware, served as an Assistant Cook in Company B, 1st Pioneer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He was "Killed In Action" during the invasion of the Peleliu Island in the Palau group and was awarded a Purple Heart.
