He attended schools in Cornish and Claremont.
He retired in December of 1989 from the Coy Paper Company where he worked as a machine operator and maintenance for thirty-one years. He previously worked for J C Johnson lumber company on lower Main Street for twelve years and did farming.
He loved gardening, hunting, fishing, and his family.
He is survived by his wife Shirley (Caron) Aiken of Claremont whom he married on July 3, 1948 and they celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary this year; son Leonard R. "Bud" Aiken, Jr.; three daughters Bonnie L (Theodore) Cummings, Brenda L. Aiken, Bernice L "Tammie" (Raymond) DeMassie; four grandchildren all of Claremont; one brother Eugene Crosby; one step-sister Judy Fletcher of Claremont; two step-brothers Wayne Gonyea of Galesburg, IL and James Gonyea of Newport; also two aunts, one uncle, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his mother Grace Gonyea in September 1993.
He will be cremated and inurned with his wife upon her passing in Union Cemetery.
