TIETZ, Dorothy A. - 90, of Empire, died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at Maple Valley Nursing Home in Maple City. Dorothy was born on Wednesday, April 14, 1920 to the late John and Mary (Shauger) Welch in Empire. She married Joseph Tietz on Saturday, June 27, 1942 in Chesaning. Dorothy and Joe lived in Swartz Creek from 1943 until 1978 when they moved back to Empire. Prior to her retirement, Dorothy was employed by the MESC. She was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Empire, a member of The National Council of Catholic Women and was also a member of the Empire Area Heritage Museum. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Virginia Ackerman of Empire, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her parents, seven brothers and four sisters. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, April 22 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Empire. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Empire. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Maple Valley Nursing Home Activity Fund, or the Empire Area Heritage Group. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City.
