Our beloved Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great and Great-Great-Grandfather has returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on April 4, 2007; he will soon be recording eternal life in heaven with his sweethearts and loved ones.
Born November 8, 1921, he was the first son of six children of John Samuel and Elva Stoddard Dye. He was raised in Uintah, Utah a former resident of North Ogden and was currently residing at the Family Tree Assisted Living of West Point, Utah. Family and friends, residents of the assisted living will always remember Merlin as their sheriff, photographer, gardener, Priesthood Blessing giver, painter, and dancer with a great love of trains and his famous sludge drinks. A great lover of life. Merlin graduated from Weber High School and then attended Weber State College receiving a certificate for Industrial Education. He worked as a machinist at Hill Air Force Base for 36 years. Merlin served in the United States Air Force as a camera technician until the end of World War II. He received an honorable discharge with a medal of recognition for his outstanding service. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints he served a two-year LDS mission in the South West Indian State of Gallup, New Mexico. Merlin married Eliza Beus on the 22nd of November 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple, they adopted their beloved son, Joseph Merlin Dye. His wife passed away February 13, 1984. He later married Mary Marston on the 12th of July 1986.
His family grew to six more children. Hellen M. Pokarth, Darlla M. (Don) Taylor, Lynda M. (John) Patterson, Allen Marston deceased, Douglas Myron (Diane) Marston, Debra M. Pace, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. His second loving wife passed away August 4th, 2006.
Merlin's hobbies are photography, model trains, travel, camping, gardening, and movies.
So proud to be called Grandpa such an inventor with an inquiring mind. Merlin walked the path of life, always taking pictures and laughing everyday, taking time to live a full life, touching the hearts of many. If our tears could build stairs, you'd have a stairway to heaven. You will always be in our hearts, we love you dad, your children.
