OSKALOOSA - Mrs. Elizabeth Brown Bates, 97, Oskaloosa, died Sunday in a rest home at Nortonville. She was born December 15, 1877 at Williamstown, Kan. and spent most of her life in the Oskaloosa community.
She was a member of Woodson Chapel Christian Church at St. Joseph, Mo. and the Rebekah Lodge and Pleasant View Grange, both at Ozawkie.
She was married to Joseph Bernard Brown who died November 23, 1934. She later was married to Samuel Edward "Ted" Bates who died December 30, 1966.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Flora Bracken, Topeka; 2 sons, Alore M. Brown, St. Joseph, Mo., and Henry A. Brown, Idyllwild, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Leila Cook, Oskaloosa; a stepson, Donald Bates, Oskaloosa; 6 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at O'Trimble Funeral Home at Nortonville. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at St. Joseph, Mo.
