An obituary for R. J. Knapp was published in the Clearwater Tribune in Orofino, Clearwater County, Idaho. It was published on the 10th of March 1949 and reads:

R. J. Knapp dies at age of 86

Death at 11 p.m. Thursday night took Reuben James Knapp, 86, at his home in Orofino. He came here in 1936 after retiring from his farm in Canada. he was born January 26, 1863 at Bonepart, Lee County, Iowa. In 1884, he moved to Allerton, Iowa, where he married Mecca Alice Halfhill in 1893. In 1910 he moved to western Canada and farmed at Lomond until 1926. He then moved to Carievale, Sask., and farmed until 1936. After selling his property, he moved to Orofino.

Surviving are his widow at Orofino; six children, Metta Knapp, Mrs. Reetha Odenwald, and Maynard, all of Orofino; Leslie of Lewiston; Mrs. Verda Honess, Lomond. Alta., Mrs. Beatrice Chester, Carievale, Sask.; a brother William of Los Angeles; 16 grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren. Another daughter, Emma Edith, died in 1902 at Allerton.

Services were held at the graveside of Normal Hill cemetery in Lewiston at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Blake Funeral home in charge. Officiating was Knute Helland, Grangeville.
