I don't know a lot about my Aunt Frances. My mum and her were great friends and did a lot of things together. They would fix each others hairs and steal each others make-up. Share clothes, set each other up with a boy.....just always having sisterly fun.
Frances married and had two sons, Thomas and Jackie, her husband dropped dead walking past the bible shop in town. He was 27 years of age. There were a lot of wise cracks about where he died....bit of Irish sarcastic humour.
She met another man and he was deeply in love with her and wanted to marry her and adopt her children. However, she was ill herself and had problems with her heart. She said she would marry her friend if she survived the surgery the doctors planned for her.
She died at home shortly after the surgery and it was later determined that she had drowned. Back then her treatment was experimental and the doctors had used plastic tubes to replace her damaged heart valves. It was discovered that inside the body these heat and cause condensation building up fluid........sad, but this discovery has led the way for many other lives to be saved. George the man she was going to marry remained single all his life and called my granny his mother-in-law. He was very good to my grandmother and to my aunts two sons. He still came once a week to visit them all after Frances died. After my granmother died he visited my mother, he truly was just one of the family a real gentleman. Frances's sons lived with my grandmother until they were grown and are now married.
I had not seen George since my mum's funeral, yet there he was once again at the gates of the church as my dad's coffin arrived. He hadn't changed a bit and slipped into our lives to support us in our sorrow - just as he was always thought of, one of the family.
